Steve Kemp, CEO and Co-Founder, on celebrating 21 years of Emperor and looking to the future.
This month we celebrate Emperor’s 21st birthday, a moment in time to reflect with pride on what we’ve achieved so far. It also signifies the start of the next part of our journey and we’re looking to the future with a clear vision, energy and ambition.
Our story began in 1996 with just the two of us. 21 years later we have a team of over 150 people working across six offices. A focus on winning new clients combined with our relentless customer service ethic has been key to our growth. We have also added complementary services, opened new offices, hired brilliant individuals and brought talented teams and businesses into the Emperor fold.
We are proud to have seen our people develop both professionally and personally. Many lifelong friendships have been created here. The often unconventional way we recruit talent shows that we look beyond traditional experience and academic background. For us, it’s about welcoming those with the right mentality, work ethic and cultural fit. We’re also proud of our investment in youth, with 22 of our current colleagues starting their careers with us via internships or work experience.
Creativity is one of the cornerstones of our business, and the quality of our work is a testament to the creative talent we have within the business. We started out as a print-focused agency; today our award-winning team delivers multi-channel and multi-disciplinary work to communicate clear and compelling messages. Being creatively driven applies to all of us, right across the business, and we love it.
We’re proud to have won the trust of many prestigious clients. It’s why we set the company up in the first place, to produce great work for clients we respect and admire. Whether they’re large corporates, fast-growing businesses, membership organisations, local authorities or educational establishments, we stay completely focused on their needs and have developed many enduring relationships along the way.
While proud of what we’ve achieved, we’re even more excited about what the future holds. We’re in the business of helping our clients with business-critical communications. We build their investment cases with impactful reporting and websites. We help them win the war for talent with engaging employee communications. We create brands that drive sales and enable our clients to stand out in their crowded marketplaces. The demand for clear, engaging communication has never been greater and is only going to grow.
Looking forward we plan to give more back. How we make our money has always been more important to us than how much we make. We are embarking on a progressive and sustainable social purpose programme, focused on retaining and developing our talented people, in a happy environment and go-getting culture. We will also be giving more of our time and energy to help causes close to our hearts, through pro bono projects, voluntary work and environmental awareness.
It’s been an amazing 21 years, but the story is only just beginning. We remain as ambitious and entrepreneurial as ever. Emperor has always been a dynamic, people-oriented business. And it always will be.
